Particle Generator is a powerful Widget that allows you to add some life to your overlays with custom emitted particle effects.

Displayed above is a panel style overlay that is using the Particle Generator Widget to create a cement crumbling effect. With a bit of imagination, you can tweak the property settings of this widget to create some really cool effects.

Remember, any underlined widget properties can be connected to a Control Node or a Data Node.

Property Settings

As seen above, select the "ParticleGenerator" tab in the Property Panel to update this widget's following property types:

Preset

The Preset box refers to various pre-defined animation settings that impact the way your particles behave. Work with these settings if you do not want to customize your particle's animation settings.

Use Preset Checkbox - Enabling this overrides all other animation style settings for this widget.

Preset - You can choose from a few preset animation options that impact the way your particles animate: Side Rotate, Side Slide, Top Slide, Grid Spin and Blinds.

 

Emitter

The Emitter box includes various settings relating to your particle emission box and your particle shape.

Show Emitter - Show/hide the "Emitter" box where the particles are emitted from.

Particle Shape - Your particle shape can be set to image, disc, ball or square.

Particle Image - If an image is selected in the "Particle Shape" box, you'll have to add your desired image url here.

Emitter X Pos - The horizontal positioning of the Emitter box.

Emitter Y Pos - The vertical positioning of the Emitter box.

Emitter Width - The sizing of the width of the Emitter box.

Emitter Height - The sizing of the height of the Emitter box.

Particle Lifetime

The Particle Lifetime box allows you to change variables relating to how long your particles last on screen. You are also able to update your particle tint over the course of its lifetime on screen.

Particles Per Second - Ability to customize how many particles you want emitted every second.

Particle Lifetime (Sec) - How low that particle lasts.

Lifetime Variability (Sec) - The variable number of seconds that a particle can last. For example, if this is set to 5 and the Particle Lifetime (Sec) is set to 10, your particles can last anywhere between 0 and 10 seconds.

Fade In Time (%) - Percentage of your particle's lifetime that it takes to fade in.

Fade Out Time (%) - Percentage of your particle's lifetime that it takes to fade out.

Use Tint - Enable/disable a color tint to your particles.

Tint (Lifetime) - The actual tint can be chosen in the available Color and Gradient Editor. For example, the tint of the particles can be a gradient that changes over the course of the particles lifetime.

Particle Motion

The Particle Motion box is where you can change variables relating to the how your particles move around on screen.

Velocity - The velocity that the particles are sent out of the Emission box.

Velocity Range - The range of velocity that your various particles can have. If your velocity, for example is set to 2 and your range is set to 2, you can have anywhere between 1 and 3 velocity particles being emitted.

Gravity - The amount of gravity impacting the emitted particles. The higher the gravity number, the heavier the particles behave.

Size Start Min - Minimum initial size of an emitted particle.

Size Start Max - Maximum initial size of an emitted particle.

Size End Min - Minimum ending size of an emitted particle.

Size End Max - Maximum ending size of an emitted particle.

Angle - The initial angle of your particles.

Angle Spread - The spread of the initial angles of your particles. For instance, if you have your Angle set to 10 and your Angle Spread set to 10, your initial angle will start from anywhere between 5 and 15 degrees.

Rotation (Initial) - The starting angle of your particles. Updating this setting is apparent when your particle is not a circular object.

Rotation Range - The range of rotation that your particles will take over the course of their lifetime. For instance, if you set this to 45, your particles can rotate anywhere between 0 and 45 degrees over the course of their lifetime.

Spin Rate (Min) - The maximum particle spin rate.

Spin Rate (Max) - The minimum particle spin rate.
